Valentine's Day Date Night Style Guide

Wow, I can't believe that it is already February! It seems as though the year 2017 is just flying by and soon enough we will be celebrating (and styling for) Christmas all over again. But of course we have all the fabulous holidays in between to style for as well, and as I'm sure you know, the next big one is no other than Valentine's Day. Personally, I'm not much of a fan of the holiday itself, however, if it gives me an excuse to dress up I'm totally down! So whether you are strictly only celebrating Galentine's Day this year (like myself since I won't be able to spend the actual holiday with John) or are getting all dolled up for a night with your sweetie, this style guide features some of the best trends for the holiday date night.

Blue Valentine

For this first look, I chose to style a simple, blue velvet, skater dress. The reason I chose this look is because this adorable and flirtatious dress is perfect for the girl who would like to have her own twist on a Valentine's Day look. Due to the cool color, you'll be sure to stand out within the sea of white, pink, and red dresses. This dress is also a great choice due to the fact it is made out of velvet, which is a style trend that is still going strong this year, and not to mention since it is so soft to the touch, this material definitely screams, "let's cuddle"!

To add some extra shimmer to this otherwise simple dress, I chose to pair it with this Kendra Scott, Candice Cuff, and this Loren Hope, Sylvia Necklace. The reason I chose these two pieces is because they give a bold feel to this dress. The necklace is a perfect choice to add some drama to the neckline of the dress, and the cuff simply balances the statement necklace out, making this duo a perfect pair.

To further accessorize this cute skater dress, I chose to go with this gorgeous gold and white envelope clutch. The reason I chose to style this clutch with this blue dress is because much like the jewelry I chose, this clutch just adds some extra flare to this simple outfit.

To finish off this first Valentine's Day look, I decided to keep it simple with a matching pair of velvet, royal blue pumps. I made this choice simply because I felt the core accessories alone should be simple and elegant, and let the secondary accessories (such as the jewelry and clutch) really take center stage.

Pretty In Pink

For this next look, I decided on a more traditional color choice, and opted to style this pretty, pink shirt dress. The reason I chose this dress was because I liked the romantic and feminine color of it, as well as it's slitted sleeves which is a huge designer trend this season. I also liked this dress' high neckline giving it a soft but sophisticated feel, which would make this elegant dress the perfect go to option for a girl with a more traditional style, who also has a flare for romance.

For this outfit's jewelry, I decided to go with these low key Kendra Scott, Alex Earrings in rose quartz. The reason I decided to pair these delicate earrings with this dress is because I did not want to pair this pretty dress with over the top jewelry. Where these pretty little gems are perfect because they add just the right amount of shine.

For my next accessory for this girly and romantic outfit, I chose to pair it with this gorgeous motty grey Chloe, Drew bag. (Which you'll be seeing me style in an upcoming outfit of the day as soon as it gets here!) The reason I chose to style the dress with this bag, is because I felt the neutral color of this purse wouldn't take away from the dress' elegant feel, and also because I just simply loved the earthy color combination. (Can anyone tell that I am more than ready for spring?) Lastly, to shop this bag, you can head over to Farfetch, but you can also shop other colors from Saks Fifth Avenue.

To put the finishing touches on this romantic look, I chose to style it with these pretty pink, feathered pumps. The reason I chose these heels is because they match the dress perfectly, but also because much like velvet/velvet detailing, feathers are showing up more and more as clothing accents this year, and I have to say it's a trend I can totally get behind.

The Main Event

This next look is definitely for the girl who wants to make an entrance. For this look, I chose this show stopping, red maxi dress. Other than the fact that I have an affinity for the color red, I also chose this maxi dress because of the fact it is a one shouldered dress and due to its sash, which are two style trends you will be seeing a lot of this year. This dress is perfect for the girl who is confident, has a fiery personality, and wants to be the center of attention.

wish3-2.jpg

The jewelry choice I decided on for this outfit, where these gorgeous, chandelier earrings by Perry Street. The reason I chose these earrings is because I felt that they complemented this stunning dress perfectly due to the dress' gold accents on its shoulder, and because much like the dress, these earrings have a flare for the dramatic.

Considering this dress is all about standing out, I figured what better way to add some more shine to this gorgeous outfit than to pair it with this beautiful gold clutch. The reason I thought this clutch went perfectly with this dress is because even though it is a dazzling piece, it would not take away from the dress itself due to its small and compact size.

To finish off this stunning ensemble, I chose to use these beautiful gold pumps as the finishing touch. The reason I chose these heels was due to the fact that they matched the clutch perfectly, and in my opinion are the glass slipper to this outfit. Much like the dress, these shoes are bold and will command attention where ever they go!

Elegant Artist

This next look is the absolutely perfect style for the artisan woman. This look is a great choice for the artistic girl who wants to look stunning, as well as make a statement with her attire. I chose to style this beautiful black and white dress as a Valentine's Day look due to its romantic feel from its lace detailing, and due to its overall sophisticated look. I also loved the lace cutout detailing and capped sleeves of this dress, giving it a bit of a sexy, yet girly feel.

To further accessorize this outfit, I chose to pair it with these lovely Kendra Scott, Sophee Drop Earrings along with this gorgeous SLATE Rachel Stone Cuff. The reason I paired these two pieces with this lace dress, is because I felt that they complemented this artistic dress perfectly due to their shapes and colors.

To finish off this artistic look, I decided to pair this gorgeous dress with these strappy matte black heels. The reason I chose these leather pumps to go with this dress is because I thought that the crisscross detailing would be the perfect finish for this artsy look while staying true to its classy nature.

Whisked Away In White

The final look I styled is a bit of a twist for Valentine's Day, in which I chose to style this white mini dress. Though in traditional Valentine's Day color schemes we see white, not to often do we see people wearing it. So the reason I chose this dress though isn't because its a unique color choice for a date night, but also because of it's cut out detailing at the shoulders, which is yet another look straight from the runway. Due to this dress' simple silhouette, its great for most body types, meaning accentuates and flatters everyone's features. The cut out at the shoulders is also a great way to show a little extra skin, making this dress subtly sexy. This dress is a great choice for the modern girl who is always effortlessly chic.

The jewelry I chose to style with this outfit are none other than these gorgeous Kendra Scott, Danielle Silver Earrings in white.  The reason I chose these earrings is because even though they are just white, they make quite the statement, just like the dress! These gems also make for some great monochromatic pairing, which is also a big trend for the winter of 2017.

To add a slight touch of color to an otherwise monochromatic outfit, I chose to pair it with this small, light pink shoulder bag. The reason I chose this bag is because it serves as a small touch of color and adds a bit of contrast to this all white ensemble, without taking away from the dress.

To complete this final look, I decided to stay true to my white color scheme and pair this chic dress with these sky high, white, sequined pumps. The reason I chose these white pumps is because I just loved the sequins on them! I thought that these heels would really complete the outfit as well as add a bit of sparkle.

Spring Semester Style Guide

As we know, the spring semester is now upon us and is most definitely in full swing, and most of us are already knee deep in syllabuses, class notes, and study guides. Needless to say the last thing on our minds is what we are going to wear this season. (Let alone tomorrow--has anyone else been shamelessly living in active wear the past week and a half?) However, since I have already covered my back to school essentials, I thought now would be a good time to share some of my favorite spring style trends that would be perfect to rock on and off campus this semester. (Not to mention if you're anything like me, it's midweek of the second week of the semester, and you've finally run out of active wear outfits, so this will give them a break too!)

The Updated Oxford

One style trend that i am absolutely crazy about this season is the update that the runway has given oxford shirts. Though a plain button down blouse will forever be a wardrobe must have of mine, the cool new twist we will be seeing on oxfords this year has me really stoked! (So much so, I actually asked for the one that is pictured here from my sponsor and affiliate Light In The Box for one of my upcoming posts featuring them.) So, I'm sure you're wondering why I am so wild about this trend. Well the reason I am is because it's obviously a great way to dress up a new classic with a new twist. And the other great thing about this tread is it isn't simply limited to the bare shoulder fad (which we all know I was a huge fan of last year) but also because there are many other cool things that can be done to give a classic oxford a fun and modern twist. (E.g. check out this one from SheIn!)

Of course to keep the polished vibe of this oxford blouse alive, you would want to pair it with some equally preppy jewelry, right? So to accessorize this blouse, I chose this little gold ensemble from my sponsor Rocksbox. The reason I chose gold to go with this blouse is because I felt that the gold would really pop against the cool blue color of the blouse instead of blending in like silver pieces would. If you love these pieces you can get the earrings by House of Harlow 1960 here, the necklace by SLATE here, the Olivia Grace ring here, and lastly the Gorjana beaded bracelet here.

To add a bit of a more relaxed touch to this outfit, I would recommend pairing it with some feminine, embroidered jeans. Though embroidered jeans were a big thing last fall, they are still going strong this season due to their cool, light, and laid back vibe. The reason why I chose this specific pair of embroidered jeans was due to the fact that they are a darker wash, which adds the perfect amount of contrast to the light blue blouse. I also like this pair of jeans because the embroidering wasn't overly busy, plus they had a simple and chic design for spring.

To finish off this fresh spring outfit, I figured when not add a fun and comfortable pair of sneakers to the mix (and I know first hand that these specific sneakers are comfy because John got them for me for Christmas!). The reason I chose these metallic gold sneakers is because of their fun and funky appearance. These sneakers have become a fast favorite of my own and they are just the perfect option to add a "wow" factor to a simple outfit while keeping you comfortable while walking around campus.

Collegiate Comfort

I'm sure all of us have been there, it's towards the end of the semester, we are exhausted from preparing for finals, and we just want to be comfortable. And while our active wear is perfect for the week prior to finals, I'm sure many of you are like me and enjoy going out with friends to celebrate finishing a big exam, so you want to look stylish. Well for this look I've but together the perfect outfit that combines comfort with street style starting with this adorable cardigan. The reason I chose this cardigan isn't just because I personally styled it a few months back for StyleWe, but because it's comfy, warm, and perfect for a laid back spring look. This sweater is also a lovely shade of lilac which is a great color to style for the season, not to mention over-sized garments were also a big hit this year making this cardigan perfect for a chic look. (Speaking of over-sized, did anyone else notice that robes as outerwear are a thing this year? Though I'll pass on that one, I can get on board with comfy grandpa sweaters.)

Though this sweater could work fine on it's own if you wore it buttoned up, I always like to layer in the spring time due to the cool mornings and warm afternoons. So to keep this comfy finals week outfit going, I decided to pair it with a basic v-neck tee. Though this is a simple pairing, sometimes simplicity is the way to go, especially if you have three final exams in one day. This grey v-neck tee adds just a little something extra to this cardigan, due to the fact it adds a little bit of contrast, but is subtle enough to give the top part of this outfit a monochromatic look, which is a big trend we will be seeing in the spring and summer of 2017.

Yes, I know, this choice is totally obvious, but boyfriend jeans are definitely, one hundred percent, my must have spring essential. And even though there are some totally fun ways to dress up these kicked back jeans, one of my favorite ways to style them is with a laid back look, and since they're so comfy (and stylish) they are absolutely perfect for finals week! The reason I chose this pair of boyfriend jeans was because I felt that their light wash complimented the grey color of the tee shirt but also was a nice contrast to the lilac cardigan. I also liked the fading and lightly distressed look of these jeans which adds a bit of a soft grunge feel to this outfit.

To complete this college chic and comfy look, I added a classic pair of white low top converse. The reason these shoes are the perfect way to complete this look is simply due to the nature of the company's brand, and I'm sure anyone who owns a pair of Chucks knows that they're so comfy! Lastly, the reason I chose white sneakers is because I felt that they added a fresh clean feel to this outfit for spring.

Bold & Bright

Next up you may recognize two of these items from an outfit of the day post I did earlier this month for Light In The Box! The reason I chose this coat for spring is because bright and neon hues are a huge trend this season. And what better way to stand out and get noticed on campus than to have a gorgeous bright coat? This coat is also great because it is incredibly warm, so it is perfect for the first few cold months of the spring semester! This coat also has a belt along with its snap so you can tie it shit for some extra warm and cozy comfort while trekking around in the cold winter weather.

Next up is this darling casual hunter green dress. As I discussed in my outfit of the day post for this coat and dress duo, the dark hunter green of this dress complements the bold and bright red of this coat perfectly, making them great options to style together. This dress on its own though is also a lovely option to attend class in this spring due to its deep earthy green tone and of course this dress' floral collar. This dress is also a great choice for class because it is made of a jersey knit material and is very comfortable. It is also a nice choice due to its casual feel on campus, but is also great for after class activities such as a dinner date with your sweetie or a trip to grab lunch with your girl friends!

Though these shoes are not the exact ones I wore in my post, I chose these adorable black pumps with a bow to wrap this pretty casual outfit. The reason I chose these shoes was because I liked their cute and feminine flare, and thought that this quality of theirs went perfectly with this casual dress without being over the top.

Wear Your Heart On Your Tee

For this outfit choice, I decided to pair two huge trends from the runway this season, those being slogan tees and loads of leather. The tee I chose to style here is just a basic grey slogan tank with a raw edge. The reason I chose this slogan tee is because I personally liked the "normal is boring" slogan, and also because I love the soft grunge feel that the raw edge gives this tee. I also like that this shirt is cropped, which would make it perfect for some Coachella inspired looks this summer.

Of course you can't go for a glam-grunge look without a killer pair of shades, so I chose this pair of cat eye sunnies. The reason I love these over-sized shades is because of the chic and subtle cutout of the plastic, revealing these sunglasses' metal frames.

outfit3-1.jpg

To add to the vibe of this '90s rock n' roll outfit I chose to add a leather, tailored moto jacket. The reason this jacket really fits the look for spring in 2017 is because the moto trend is still going strong on the runway. Not to mention along with the moto detailing, the metal and zipper detailing also adds a bit of badassness to this look, and goes fittingly with the "normal is boring" slogan tee.

outfit3-6.jpg

To accessorize this bad girl look a bit, I decided to add this silver chain bracelet by Jill Michael. The reason I chose this bracelet was though it would be a subtle choice, this bracelet really does complement the leather detailing of the moto jacket.

Since it is springtime after all, I always take that as a cue that it is time to break out the shorts! So for this daring outfit, I decided what better way to style it that with these awesome leather shorts. The reason I chose these shorts is because I love the geometric cut of them which I felt really added to the late '80s early '90s rocker edge to this outfit. I also like how the lapels of the shorts overlap to give this piece and interesting and fresh take.

To put the finishing touches on the glam rock outfit, I decided to par this ensemble with some over the knee leather boots. Since this look is all about leather, I figured these boots would be the perfect match for this look. I also chose these boots because just like last season, we are still seeing all kinds of boots and booties on the runway. Whether it be velvet, ankle, leather, or suede, it looks like boots are here to stay in 2017 so why not keep styling them?

Uptown Girl

For this last look, I've styled two more huge trends that we will be seeing all throughout spring of 2017, and those two things are khaki trench coats and white shirt dresses. The reason I love these trends are because they are both classically chic and timeless. (I mean think of the starlets who used to rock them such as Audrey Hepburn and Sophia Loren.) The reason I chose this trench coat was simply due to it traditional style, cut, and color, which kept it true to its classic nature. I also loved the lapel detailing and just feel that this trench coat would be perfect for spring, especially if you want to go for a classic vibe.

To add a bit of shine to this classic look, I chose to add a subtle pop of color by using these Kendra Scott earrings and this Loren Hope bracelet. The reason I chose to style these pieces with this outfit was due to their simple but bright tones, which play off the earthy color of the trench coat perfectly.

As you can see, the shirt dress I chose for this outfit isn't a classic shirt dress, but one with a modern twist. The reason I chose this shirt dress, was because I liked the minimalistic silhouette of it, but also because I liked the graphic detailing as well, which much like the slogan tees, are incredibly hot on the runway this season. This dress also would work great on its own as a simple summer outfit while running errands or having a day out with your girls.

To further accessories this outfit, I decided to pair it with this adorable lemon graphic purse. The reason I chose this purse was for one I just thought that the details of it were darling, but also because as I mention earlier, neon is a big trend that we will be seeing this season. I also like this purse because it adds a fun and playful flare to this otherwise plain outfit.

outfit4-6.jpg

To finish off this classic outfit, I decided to play some more with neon hues and decided to use these bright orange, platform sandals due to the fact they complement the neon yellow of the purse. However, I also chose these sandals because platforms are definitely making a comeback in the spring of 2017, taking all of us to new heights (literally)!

My Style Resolutions for 2017 (Feat. Saks Fifth Avenue + Info to Save You Cash)

Another year has come and gone, and boy what a year 2016 was! If you follow me on Instagram, I'm sure you've seen my "2016 Best Nine" that I posted on Christmas Eve, however if you haven't yet you can check out my best nine photo collage here. But a quick recap of my year is as follows:

I took a hiatus from blogging for the summer because I was very busy with my job at DSG and had a couple concerts and events I wanted to go to, so I just couldn't do it all! But at one of those concerts (Warped Tour, actually) I met my boyfriend, John. Then in October, I was accepted into Point Park University's psychology program as a transfer student and was awarded a $14,000 a year scholarship for good academic merit! And the news about college just continued getting better when I was accepted into CollegeFashionista's internship program as a Style Guru, starting next semester (aka, January, well tomorrow!). And now, the super exciting and most recent news of 2016 (what this article is actually about!!) is that on December 20th, I became an affiliate of Saks Fifth Avenue, which is only the greatest department store in the world! And this post is the first of many that I will be partnering up with Saks for.

For this first post though, I decided to share my 2017 Style Resolutions with you all. However, that's not all I am sharing! After I tell you about my style resolutions, I also have a little something for my readers to enjoy, compliments of Saks, that might just help you get a jump on some of your own style resolutions.

My Style Resolutions for 2017

Lace It Up

Something I've been wanting to incorporate a little more into my wardrobe are pretty, romantic, lacy dresses and/or skirts. Though normally my looks tend to be more soft grunge or modern, lately I've been feeling a need to add a softer and romantic side to my wardrobe. Another reason this is a style resolution of mine is because I feel like adding lace to some of my more edgy looks cold be a fun thing to experiment with. Not to mention, due to the fact I will still be spending time in the sunshine state next year, I just think lace pieces would make for marvelous bohemian looks one the boardwalk and the beach.

Treat Yourself to Some Luxury Goods

One thing I have decided that I am going to treat myself to for my birthday next year is a brand new Prada purse, not a used one from Tradesy, but a brand spanking new Saffiano Leather Tote in (hopefully if it's not sold out or is restocked) black and red. Not only is treating yourself to a luxury good rewarding because you'll have a timeless piece of fashion, but because you saved for it and you earned it. I know that for me personally, saving and being on a budget can be a bit tricky, however, I am currently bribing myself to save for this beautiful bag, as well as for other things that I would like to do/purchase in 2017.

Prints Please

Another thing I would love to experiment with in my wardrobe next year is wild prints. Though I have made good on my promise to add more color to my closet, I have only actually added two printed items. So, for spring and summer of 2017, I am vowing to find some fun printed pieces so that I can add a touch of fun to my office wardrobe. But why just stop there? I can even experiment with printed casual wear too such as shorts, skirts, and some darling patterned blouses!

Get Prettier Undies

Okay, okay, I know underwear isn't exactly something most people would put under "style resolutions" but hey I am, and for good reason! In my opinion, I feel my best and most confident when I am in a dress, killer heels, and have on some sexy undergarments to go along with them. That being said, though I have many cute panties, most of my bras are just a basic white, nude, or black. Pretty boring, huh? Well recently I treated myself to four new sets of gorgeous bras and panties, and I have to say, even though they go under my favorite pieces to style, I feel like they really have made a difference and helped boost my confidence. With that being said,  2017 is the time to buy four more pretty sets!

Wear More Pink

In the year 2017, I want to embrace my inner Audrey Hepburn and fall in love with the color pink. Now note, I've never hated the color and honestly feel like I would look pretty good in it due to my blonde hair (Elle Woods anyone?) but while going through my closet recently I noticed I own nothing pink. The I began to speculate if I ever had, so much so I called my mother to see if she recalled. Her response? "Well you have that one blouse from Ann Taylor that is kinda pink, but personally I would say it's more of a light blush. So no, I don't think you own anything pink." And there you have it. So needless to say in the next year I'm going to have to get at least one pink item. (Hopefully that item will be this dress!)

Stop Saving Certain Clothes for a "Special Occasion"

One thing I always do, that John actually pointed out when I visited him on Thanksgiving, is: I always get dressed in something for a night out, decide I look too over dressed and immediately change. Well come 2017 not anymore! The reason I say this is because when you think about it, when you get dressed up you aren't doing it for anyone else but yourself. So if you feel pretty and confident in what you are wearing, then why shouldn't you rock it? The only way someone is going to judge you on being over (or under) dressed for an occasion is if you appear uncomfortable or if you seem to be lacking confidence in your styling decision. So with that being said, chin up and wear that fancy evening gown to dinner!

Style Something Gender Neutral

During the course of 2016, something that I have been playing with the idea of styling has been menswear, or in my case "boyfriend wear". This being said, I figured after I tackle that early next year, what if I stepped up my game and tried out styling a few outfits that would be considered "gender neutral"? What I mean by that is, I would love to style pieces that would look great on both women and men, meaning lots of structured jackets, clean lines, minimalist silhouettes, and of course suits! I just feel like this would be a fun but tough look to style, but hey, I am always up for a good challenge and trying something new.

Longer Lengths

Something else I'm really digging the idea of for 2017 is styling more maxi dresses and skirts. Honestly, I'm surprised I haven't styled them more frequently in the past. The reason I say this is because due to the fact I am tall (not to mention all legs), maxis are actually very flattering to my height as well as body shape. The other thing I love about maxi dresses and skirts is much like lace garments, maxis can be soft, pretty, and romantic, which are some styles I definitely want to style more of next year.

Wear Heels More Often

As I mentioned in my last resolution, I am tall. This being said, along time ago when I was still in high school I got in the habit of not wearing heels because the guy I dated during that time didn't like it because they made me taller than him. Though this wasn't a personal issue with future guys I would go on to date, after having that stigma throughout my junior and senior year of high school it just kind of stuck with me personally and made me feel self conscious. Well I've decided in 2017 I'll definitely be rocking my Louboutin Daf Bootys more often than not, even though they make me a good two inches  taller than John. (Sorry, not sorry babe!)

Embrace the Basics

My last style resolution is definitely the simplest, but might also be the most important. While going through my closet I realized that I hardly have any plain tank tops or tee shirts. So needless to say I've decided that I need to acquire at least one white, grey, and black one of each this coming year! The reason these basic pieces are so important is because they can add depth to an outfit via layering and can also work well on their own. One of my favorite laid back summer styles is just a basic white tank top, bell bottom jeans, heels, and some over sized sunnies. This simple look was so fun to accessorize though, I loved to pair it with head scarves, big hoop earrings, and jewelry. (Now why do I feel like this is going to be an outfit of the day this coming summer?!)

Saks Fifth Avenue Final Sale

Since I mentioned there is something in this for my readers, you're all probably wondering "what's in this for me?". Well I am thrilled to announce that since I am now an affiliate of Saks Fifth Avenue, I will now be able to keep my readers in the know about exclusive deals and sales that Saks is running at any given time, pretty sweet, huh? With that being said the sale that Saks is currently having is one I am totally thrilled to let you in on.

The sale that Saks is currently having is their Final Sale, which can save you up to 70% off on luxury items. I'm talking Vince tank tops for as low as $14 (when they are normally $48), and Rebecca Minkoff Bags as low as $81!
